Let's be candid about parenthood

A few weeks ago I was talking to a friend about how people our age expect completely unrealistic things such as brand new houses, cars, a large income, and perfect kids. Today I just want to be completely honest about parenthood.

Let's face it, the first few weeks of having a new baby in the house was completely overwhelming! I don't care who you are, if you say that the first few weeks with your first kid was easy, you're most likely lying. If you find yourself crying uncontrollably, you're in good company. If you want to crawl into bed for a few years, you're in good company there too.

I don't care who says what, breastfeeding is HARD! Especially when everyone is telling you that your milk will come in eventually and in the meantime just get used to having feedings take over an hour because you have to supplement with formula. Hello! I need a life you know. I can't be a dairy queen ALL day for the rest of my life!

On that note, if someone isn't breastfeeding, don't judge them. Maybe their milk never did come in no matter what they tried. By the way, taking 9 Fenugreek pills a day will not help your milk to come in. Don't waste your time. That's a myth. I would know. All it really does it make you smell like maple syrup.

No matter what people say on their blogs, their absolutely adorable perfect children pee, poop, fart, burp, throw up, and cry. Its just what they do. And they will do all of those things during Sacrament Meeting.

No matter who you talk to, everyone will give their opinion on how to raise your baby. Just smile and nod politely and do what works for you. You may not agree with my kids schedule, but you're not going to see me complaining because they're sleeping 10 hours a night.

You may want to go spend all your money on cute new baby clothes. Don't do it. They just get dirty anyway. And guess what? You're kids aren't going to know that they're not dressed in brand name clothes.



I know that I'm no expert on parenting. I mean come on, I've only been a parent for three months. But those are just a few thoughts I've had. And in all reality, being a parent is great. It makes me happy that Wyatt actually wants to hang out with me all day (as if he has a say in the matter). Having a family is the greatest blessing that my Heavenly Father has ever given me! Truly! But that doesn't mean that I don't have to work to be happy. However, its totally worth it!

He's dedicated for sure!

Wyatt has this play mat that he likes to play with. If you look on the right of the picture, he's gripping a flower. If you pull the flower (it takes quite a bit of strength actually), it will sing. Wyatt was getting frustrated because he couldn't get it to sing anymore. He tried and tried and next thing I know, he's passed out still gripping the flower. He has his Dad's dedication for sure!

12 weeks already?!

Time flies! Wyatt is now 12 weeks and is growing WAY too fast. Some things about Wyatt:

-He likes to stand
-He is the cutest coo-er (and snorer) on the block
-He is still figuring out his hands but loves to wave them around
-He loves to kick his legs
-He's about 12 lbs now and is getting heavier every day
-He likes to sit on Dad's lap when he gets home from work
-He loves loves loves being outside
-And he's been sleeping through the night (10-7) for about 6 weeks now and is working on sleeping for 12 hours

We think he's a keeper.

Wyatt was blessed

Wyatt Brent Canfield was blessed on June 5, 2011 by his dad. A few things he was blessed with includes

-Knowing of his Heavenly Father's love for him
-To be a better person each day
-Continue in strengthening his testimony
-Knowing that his testimony will sustain him
-Choosing to seek guidance from Heavenly Father
-Seek to have his choices confirmed by the Spirit
-Be healthy and strong physically, emotionally, and most importantly, spiritually
-Honor the women in his life especially his mother and his future wife

It was a beautiful blessing and a beautiful day!!
